What do you do when you’ve got a piece of audio for your video that is too low? Sure you try to raise the gain, but the high peaks start to clip, and you’re going to get distortion. So what’s a boy to do?

The first step… Try applying a normalization gain. What does this do?

A normalization gain increasees the gain of your audio all the way up to the point of clipping (-0db) and stopping. This allows you to bring up your original audio as high as it can before distortion. Pretty sweet huh?

Try this technique the next time your audio is just a little bit too low. There is one caveat to this little trick however. What happens when you’ve got some bangs and pops that are already maxing out your audio head room? I’ll address that in future post. Let me know if this little trick worked for you.
